Description

6′ x 8′ ESC MSB4 Steel Manhole Box

The ESC MSB4-68 is a 6-foot-tall steel manhole-box stacker designed for underground structure and utility excavations. This stacker can be installed on top of a compatible manhole box to provide additional protected height for deeper excavations.

This box may also be used independently where a 6-foot shield height is appropriate for the excavation and planned work. Its 8-foot length provides working room for compatible manholes, vaults, drainage structures, utility connections, and installation or repair projects.

The 6′ x 8′ manhole box has 4-inch-thick steel walls, a 2,200 PSF panel capacity, 48 inches of pipe clearance, and 7′2″ of clear length between the spreaders. Suitability depends on the dimensions of the manhole, vault, pipe, fittings, rigging, and other components used during installation.

Key Benefits & Crew Efficiency

  • Manhole-Box Stacker Configuration: The 6-foot panel height allows this stacker to be installed above a compatible manhole box when additional protected height is required.

  • Standalone Use When Appropriate: This box may also be used independently where a 6-foot shield height meets the excavation and project requirements.

  • 2,200 PSF Panel Capacity: Provides substantial panel capacity for underground utility, municipal, drainage, and structure-installation work.

  • Practical Working Length: Offers 7′2″ of clear length between spreaders for structure placement, utility connections, rigging, and installation work.

  • 48-Inch Pipe Clearance: Provides increased clearance beneath the spreader area for compatible pipe, connections, and utility components.

  • Strong Depth Ratings: Rated to maximum depths of 49 feet in B45 soil, 37 feet in C60 soil, and 28 feet in C80 soil, subject to the applicable manufacturer tabulated data and complete system configuration.

  • Versatile 6-Foot Stacker: Weighing approximately 3,875 lbs, this box can add 6 feet of panel height to a compatible manhole-box system without requiring the complete base box to be replaced.

Shipping rates are calculated based on equipment quantity, selected spreader configuration, stacking components, additional equipment, and the final delivery destination.

We can coordinate delivery to your equipment yard, contractor facility, or jobsite and provide multiple-unit pricing for larger equipment orders.

Target Applications

The 6′ x 8′ ESC steel manhole-box stacker is designed for underground structure and utility work where an additional 6 feet of panel height is needed above a compatible base manhole box. It may also be used independently where the 6-foot shield height is suitable for the excavation.

Typical applications may include:

  • extending a compatible manhole-box system for deeper excavations;

  • precast manhole installation;

  • valve and meter vault installation;

  • catch basin and drainage-structure installation;

  • utility tie-ins, tees, crosses, and service connections;

  • water, sewer, gas, electrical, and telecommunications work;

  • spot repairs and utility maintenance;

  • utility exposure in streets and easements;

  • excavation work around existing utilities and structures.

The 8-foot length provides a useful working area for compatible structures, connections, rigging, and installation equipment. It can also be easier to position than a longer manhole box when the project does not require additional longitudinal working room.

The 6-foot panel height provides more vertical coverage than a 4-foot stacker. The 48-inch pipe clearance may also accommodate larger compatible pipe and utility components, depending on the selected spreader configuration and installation method.

Suitability depends on the outside dimensions of the manhole section, vault, pipe, fitting, or other component. Customers should confirm that the structure, installation method, and stacked arrangement are compatible with the available clearance, spreader spacing, connection points, and complete manhole-box system.

Critical Selection & Safety Factors

Is the 6×8 ESC Manhole-Box Stacker Right for Your Jobsite?

Selecting a manhole-box system requires more than comparing the exterior height and length of an individual box.

The correct configuration depends on excavation depth, soil classification, excavation width, structure dimensions, pipe and connection locations, required working clearance, groundwater, surcharge loads, adjacent structures, lifting equipment, and jobsite access.

This 6-foot stacker is worth considering when a compatible manhole-box system requires additional protected panel height beyond what a 4-foot extension provides. It may also be appropriate as a standalone box for excavations where a 6-foot shield height provides suitable protection under the applicable tabulated data.

Before selecting this box, verify that the manhole, vault, pipe, fittings, rigging, and installation equipment can be accommodated within the available working area. The 48-inch pipe clearance and 7′2″ length between spreaders should be evaluated against the actual project dimensions.

When used as a stacker, confirm compatibility with the base manhole box, stacking connections, spreader arrangement, and complete assembled system. The weight and lifting requirements of the full configuration must also be considered.

For projects requiring only a 4-foot extension, a compatible 4′ x 8′ manhole-box stacker may be a better fit. Structures requiring additional longitudinal working room may require a 6′ x 10′ configuration.

We can help compare ESC manhole boxes and stackers based on structure dimensions, excavation requirements, available equipment, transportation needs, and preferred working clearance.

Depth Ratings & Tabulated Data

The listed depth ratings must be evaluated together with the applicable manufacturer tabulated data, the complete manhole-box configuration, and actual jobsite conditions.

The Competent Person must evaluate the excavation, determine the applicable soil classification, account for surcharge loads and adjacent structures, and select and use the protective system accordingly.

When this box is stacked above another manhole box, the compatibility of the boxes, stacking connections, spreader arrangement, assembled height, and applicable system ratings must be verified.

Groundwater, excavation geometry, spoil-pile placement, heavy equipment near the excavation, and other site-specific conditions must also be considered.

The dimensions of the manhole, vault, pipe, utility component, rigging, and installation equipment must be reviewed to confirm compatibility with the available clearance and working area.
