Description
The 4' x 10' Pacific Shoring Lightweight Corrugated Aluminum Shoring Shield is a lightweight, backhoe-liftable protective system designed for underground utility excavation, service connections, and localized utility repair work. Its 4-foot shield height and 10-foot panel length provide extended longitudinal coverage compared with shorter models in the same product series.
Constructed with horizontal corrugated aluminum sheeting and vertical shoring rails, this shield combines lightweight handling with manufacturer-rated lateral soil pressure resistance. It is available in hydraulic or pinned static configurations, with an optional wheel kit for approved static-mode applications.

*Weights are the manufacturer's published values for the 4' x 10' light-duty rail shield configuration. Actual assembled weight may vary with rail selection, strut length, and optional components. Confirm the complete configuration and lifting weight before use.
A25, B45, and C60 represent the manufacturer's tabulated soil pressure assumptions. C60 is not an OSHA Appendix A soil classification. The referenced selection table does not provide a C80 depth rating for this shield.
Ideal Applications
The 4' x 10' lightweight corrugated aluminum shield is an option for underground utility excavation projects where a four-foot shield height and ten-foot panel length provide an appropriate protective footprint.
Compared with the shorter 4' x 8' configuration, the additional two feet of panel length provides greater longitudinal coverage along the excavation. This may be beneficial for utility repairs and service connections where the work area extends beyond the footprint of a shorter shield.
- Localized water and sewer utility repairs
- Water service connections, utility tie-ins, and spot repairs
- Underground electrical, gas, and telecommunications utility exposure
- Utility inspection, maintenance, and repair work
- Utility trench sections requiring longer protective shield coverage
- Appropriate static-mode utility work using the optional wheel kit
Suitability depends on the dimensions of the pipe, utility component, or structure being installed or repaired, as well as excavation geometry, soil conditions, and the manufacturer's tabulated data. A competent person must verify that the selected shield configuration is appropriate for the project.
Hydraulic and Static Configurations
Hydraulic Configuration
Uses Pacific Shoring 2-inch hydraulic struts with aluminum tube oversleeves.
The manufacturer specifies a minimum hydraulic pressure of 750 psi using shoring fluid. Installation, strut spacing, and any stacking arrangements must comply with the manufacturer's tabulated data.
Static Configuration
Uses pinned aluminum oversleeves without hydraulic pressurization.
Static shields may be stacked up to three deep when permitted by the manufacturer's depth limits and approved stacking bracket requirements.
The optional wheel kit requires static-mode operation.
Optional Wheel Kit
Pacific Shoring offers an optional wheel kit for properly configured static-mode corrugated aluminum shield systems. The kit can assist with repositioning the shield along an excavation when the project conditions and approved configuration permit its use.
Wheel-kit selection must follow the manufacturer's requirements for trench width, receiver length, crossbar material, and the number of attached shields.
- Wheel-kit use is limited to static-mode shields.
- Crossbars must be selected according to the manufacturer's wheel-kit tables and pinned to the wheel kit.
- Shield connections must be secured at all four corners.
- Stacked shields must be pinned together at all four corners.
- Maximum combined shield weight attached to the wheel kit: 1,380 lbs.
Trench Width and End Sheeting
The Pacific Shoring lightweight corrugated shield system has manufacturer-stated allowable trench widths of 2 to 10 feet without end sheeting and 2 to 7 feet with end sheeting, subject to the specific configuration and tabulated data.
Optional end sheeting uses telescoping brackets and requires either a hydraulic configuration with standard 2-inch cylinders pressurized to 1,000 psi, or a static four-sided configuration with sheeting on both ends.
End sheeting is not included as a standard feature of the 4' x 10' shield. Verify all component, material, and installation requirements before use.
Manufacturer Tabulated Data and Safety
Pacific Shoring's published tabulated data governs the allowable use of this shield. The data references OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P and includes requirements for soil classification, trench width, allowable depth, surcharge loads, shield configuration, stacking, and optional accessories.
