Description
The 2' x 8' Pacific Shoring Lightweight Corrugated Aluminum Shoring Shield is a lightweight, backhoe-liftable protective system designed for light-duty utility excavation work. Its 2-foot height and 8-foot panel length provide extended longitudinal coverage compared with the shorter 2' x 4' and 2' x 6' configurations while retaining a low-profile aluminum shield design.
Built with horizontal corrugated aluminum sheeting and vertical shoring rails, this shield is available in hydraulic or pinned static configurations. It can also be used with Pacific Shoring's optional wheel kit when assembled according to the manufacturer's static-mode requirements.

*Estimated weights are calculated as one-half of the manufacturer's published 4' x 8' light-duty rail shield weights (325 lbs hydraulic and 308 lbs static). Pacific Shoring states that 2-foot-high shields weigh approximately half as much as corresponding 4-foot-high shields. Actual assembled weights should be confirmed before ordering or lifting.
A25, B45, and C60 represent the manufacturer's tabulated soil pressure assumptions. C60 is not an OSHA Appendix A soil classification. The manufacturer does not provide a C80 depth rating for this shield in the referenced selection table.
Ideal Applications
The 2' x 8' lightweight corrugated aluminum shield is designed for light-duty utility work where a longer protective shield footprint is useful while maintaining a relatively low-profile configuration. The 8-foot panel length provides additional coverage along the excavation compared with shorter models in the same product series.
- Localized water and sewer utility repairs
- Utility service connections and tie-ins
- Underground utility exposure, inspection, and maintenance
- Utility trench sections requiring additional longitudinal coverage
- Projects where lightweight equipment handling is important
- Appropriate static-mode work using an optional wheel kit
The 2-foot shield height does not, by itself, determine an allowable excavation depth or application. Suitability depends on excavation geometry, soil conditions, shield configuration, and the manufacturer's tabulated data. The contractor's competent person must determine whether the selected system is appropriate for the work.
Hydraulic and Static Configurations
Hydraulic Configuration
Uses Pacific Shoring 2-inch hydraulic struts with aluminum tube oversleeves.
The manufacturer specifies a minimum hydraulic pressure of 750 psi using shoring fluid. Stacking and installation must follow the manufacturer's tabulated requirements.
Static Configuration
Uses pinned aluminum oversleeves without hydraulic pressurization.
Static shields may be stacked up to three deep, subject to allowable depth limits and approved stacking brackets. The optional wheel kit requires static-mode operation.
Optional Wheel Kit
Pacific Shoring's optional wheel kit allows a properly configured static shield assembly to be repositioned along the trench. This may be useful where utility excavation work progresses along a trench alignment and the wheel-kit configuration is appropriate for the project.
The wheel kit must be selected and assembled using the manufacturer's requirements for trench width, receiver length, crossbar material, and number of stacked shields.
- Wheel-kit use is limited to static-mode shields.
- Crossbars must be selected according to the manufacturer's wheel-kit tables and pinned to the wheel kit.
- Shield connections must be secured at all four corners.
- Stacked shields must be pinned together at all four corners.
- Maximum combined shield weight attached to the wheel kit: 1,380 lbs.
Trench Width and End Sheeting
The Pacific Shoring light corrugated shield system has manufacturer-stated allowable trench widths of 2 to 10 feet without end sheeting, and 2 to 7 feet with end sheeting, subject to the specific configuration.
Optional end sheeting uses telescoping brackets and requires either a hydraulic configuration with standard 2-inch cylinders pressurized to 1,000 psi, or a static four-sided configuration with sheeting on both ends.
End sheeting is not included as a standard feature of the 2' x 8' shield. Confirm component compatibility, sheeting material, and applicable restrictions before use.
Manufacturer Tabulated Data and Safety
Pacific Shoring's published tabulated data governs the allowable use of this shield. The data references OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P and includes requirements for soil classification, trench width, allowable depth, surcharge loads, shield configuration, stacking, and optional accessories.
