4′ x 16′ ESC TSB4 Steel Trench Box
The ESC TSB4-416 is a mainline steel trench shield built for underground utility, pipeline, municipal, and infrastructure projects. Its 16-foot length provides substantial working room while maintaining a lower-profile 4-foot shield height.
The 4-foot-tall configuration can be used as a standalone trench box where that shield height is appropriate. It can also be used as an extension shield stacked on top of a compatible taller trench box using connecting stacking pins.
A 16-foot long trench box is typically used with pipe sections that are up to 12 feet long. As a general safety rule it is recommended that a trench shield be at least 4 feet longer than the pipe being installed.
Following this rule provides additional shield length beyond the pipe section and gives the crew more working room for installation and connection work inside the protected area.

When used as a standalone shield, the 4-foot panel height must be appropriate for the excavation and working conditions.
When used as part of a stacked system, the box should be connected with the appropriate stacking pins. The complete configuration must be evaluated according to the applicable tabulated data and actual jobsite conditions.
