Description

9′ x 5′ Kundel ShoreLite Lite Aluminum Trench Box

The Kundel ShoreLite Lite 9′ x 5′ aluminum trench box is a tall, modular protective system designed for localized utility excavations where crews need a 9-foot assembled shield height but do not require the additional excavation length of a 6-foot or 7-foot-long configuration.

This configuration uses 9-foot-high, 5-foot-long aluminum side panels with a 2.5-inch profile. The complete system has a listed weight of approximately 850 lbs, providing contractors and municipalities with a comparatively portable alternative to many steel trench boxes in a similar size range.

The 9-foot shield height is created through ShoreLite Lite’s modular stacked-panel design. Compatible panels and connecting components must be assembled in the required arrangement and used according to Kundel’s instructions and applicable tabulated data.

The system uses pin-less panel connections intended to simplify assembly and disassembly. Individual components are designed for two-person assembly in suitable conditions, while balanced four-point rotating rigging assists with lifting and positioning the complete trench box using properly rated equipment.

This configuration provides 18 inches of pipe clearance and an 840 PSF panel capacity. Its listed maximum depth ratings are 33 feet in Type A soil, 18 feet in Type B soil, and 14 feet in Type C soil. All ratings must be evaluated using the applicable Kundel tabulated data and the complete assembled system configuration.

Key Benefits & Crew Efficiency

  • 9-Foot Assembled Shield Height: Provides substantial vertical panel coverage for compatible utility, repair, and maintenance excavations.
  • Short 5-Foot Panel Length: Requires less longitudinal excavation space than the 9′ x 6′ and 9′ x 7′ ShoreLite Lite configurations.
  • Modular Stacked-Panel Design: Compatible ShoreLite Lite panels and connectors combine to create the taller 9-foot system configuration.
  • Lightweight Aluminum Construction: The approximately 850-pound listed weight makes the system easier to transport and position than many steel trench boxes with similar exterior dimensions.
  • Pin-Less Panel Connections: Kundel’s connection system reduces reliance on loose assembly pins and helps streamline setup and disassembly.
  • Two-Person Component Assembly: Individual modular components are designed for assembly by a two-person crew in suitable conditions.
  • Balanced Lifting Arrangement: Four-point rotating rigging helps balance the complete system during lifting and placement with properly rated equipment.
  • Portable Storage and Transportation: The trench box can be disassembled into individual components for transportation and storage between projects.
  • 840 PSF Panel Capacity: Provides manufacturer-listed panel capacity for compatible excavation and utility applications.
  • 18-Inch Pipe Clearance: Provides clearance beneath the spreader area for compatible pipe, conduit, valves, service connections, and utility components.

Pricing & Logistics

Price: $12,170.00

Contact Iron Lot to confirm current pricing, availability, included panels and connecting components, compatible spreader widths, optional accessories, and shipping costs.

Included Components and Accessories

The exact contents of a ShoreLite Lite quote should be confirmed before ordering. Spreaders, spreader adjusters, stacking connectors, square connectors, leg kits, rigging, wheel kits, and other attachments may be priced or sold separately depending on the selected configuration.

Because this is a 9-foot-tall modular configuration, verify that the quote includes all panels and connecting components required to create the complete assembled height.

The final component list depends on the desired inside width, number of protected sides, panel arrangement, excavation dimensions, and intended shielding or shoring application.

Freight and Delivery Coordination

The modular aluminum construction allows the system to be disassembled into individual components for transportation and storage. The vehicle, trailer, securement method, unloading plan, and lifting equipment must still be appropriate for the complete shipment.

The listed system weight may vary with the selected spreader width, connectors, rigging, legs, and other accessories. Confirm the final equipment and shipping weight when requesting a quote.

Iron Lot can coordinate delivery to your contractor yard, municipal facility, equipment location, or jobsite.

Target Applications

The ShoreLite Lite 9′ x 5′ is primarily suited to localized excavations where a 9-foot assembled shield height is required but a longer trench box would be unnecessarily difficult to position.

Typical applications may include:

  • Water-service and water-main repairs
  • Sewer-service and sewer-main repairs
  • Gas-service connections
  • Electrical and telecommunications work
  • Utility tie-ins, tees, and service connections
  • Valve and utility-component access
  • Localized utility exposure
  • Pipe, conduit, and fitting repairs
  • Spot repairs in streets and easements
  • Emergency utility maintenance
  • Bore and receiving pits where the dimensions are suitable
  • Excavations in congested or restricted-access areas

The 5-foot panel length can reduce the longitudinal excavation area needed for localized work. This may be useful where the excavation is restricted by existing utilities, pavement limits, traffic-control requirements, landscaping, structures, or limited equipment access.

The 9-foot assembled height provides greater vertical panel coverage than the 3-foot and 6-foot ShoreLite Lite configurations. However, the taller system also increases total weight, wind exposure, rigging requirements, and the importance of correct panel and connector assembly.

Suitability depends on the excavation dimensions and the size and location of the pipe, fitting, valve, conduit, structure, utility component, tools, and equipment used during the work. Customers should verify that the 18-inch pipe clearance and selected inside width provide sufficient working room.

Modular ShoreLite Lite System

ShoreLite Lite is a modular aluminum protective system available in multiple panel heights and lengths. Compatible panels and components may be combined to create taller or multi-sided systems for different excavation requirements.

Depending on the intended application and applicable manufacturer data, ShoreLite Lite may be arranged as:

  • A two-sided trench box
  • A three-sided protective system
  • A four-sided protective system
  • A stacked-panel configuration
  • A system raised with compatible leg kits
  • A tandem arrangement using approved components
  • A fixed-width system
  • An adjustable-width system

The 9-foot configuration uses vertically stacked modular panels and required connecting components. All panel joints, connectors, spreaders, rigging points, and other components must be properly aligned and secured before the system is placed into service.

Any stacked, tandem, raised, adjustable, or multi-sided configuration must use the required Kundel components and comply with the applicable manufacturer’s tabulated data.

Critical Selection & Safety Factors

Is the ShoreLite Lite 9′ x 5′ Right for Your Excavation?

The exterior height and length of a trench box do not by themselves determine whether it is suitable for a project.

The selection process should consider:

  • Excavation depth and width
  • Soil classification
  • Surcharge loads
  • Groundwater and changing soil conditions
  • Traffic, structures, spoil piles, and equipment near the excavation
  • Pipe and utility-component dimensions
  • Required working clearance
  • Selected spreader type and inside width
  • Access and egress requirements
  • Complete stacked-panel configuration
  • Lifting and placement equipment
  • The intended shielding or shoring application

The 9-foot panel height does not mean the system is limited to a 9-foot-deep excavation. It also does not mean the box can automatically be used at the maximum listed depth under every jobsite condition.

The complete protective-system configuration and applicable manufacturer’s tabulated data must be evaluated. The project’s Competent Person must inspect the excavation, classify the soil, evaluate changing conditions, and verify that the selected system is appropriate for the excavation and used correctly.

Depth Ratings & Tabulated Data

The listed maximum soil depth ratings are:

  • Type A soil: 33 feet
  • Type B soil: 18 feet
  • Type C soil: 14 feet

These ratings must be interpreted through the applicable Kundel tabulated data. The allowable depth may depend on the panel arrangement, assembled system height, selected spreaders, inside width, number of protected sides, soil conditions, surcharge loads, and intended shielding or shoring configuration.

The listed maximum depth rating is not the same as the height of the protected work area inside the trench box. Shield placement within the excavation and any allowable distances above or below the panels must comply with applicable safety requirements and manufacturer instructions.

Excavations exceeding 20 feet in depth generally require a protective system designed or approved under the applicable engineering requirements. Do not rely on a product-page depth rating as a substitute for the manufacturer’s tabulated data or a project-specific engineered design when one is required.

The Competent Person must verify the soil classification, inspect the excavation, account for site-specific hazards, and ensure that the complete stacked-panel system is assembled and used according to the manufacturer’s requirements.

Assembly, Lifting & Handling

Kundel describes ShoreLite Lite as a modular system with individual components that can be assembled by two workers. This refers to the component assembly process and should not be interpreted as permission to manually lift or move the complete 850-pound assembled system.

The 9-foot configuration must be completely assembled with all required panels, connectors, spreaders, and rigging components before use. The complete trench box should be lifted, lowered, repositioned, and removed using approved rigging points and equipment with sufficient rated capacity.

Before each use, inspect:

  • Aluminum panels
  • Vertical panel joints
  • Stacking and panel connectors
  • Spreaders and spreader adjusters
  • Legs and square connectors
  • Rigging and lifting points
  • Welds and structural areas
  • Locking and connection surfaces
  • Components for cracks, bends, distortion, damage, or excessive wear

Damaged or questionable components should be removed from service until they have been evaluated according to the manufacturer’s requirements.

Why Choose the Kundel ShoreLite Lite 9′ x 5′?

The ShoreLite Lite 9′ x 5′ combines the tallest listed ShoreLite Lite configuration with the shortest available 5-foot panel length. This combination provides substantial vertical coverage while limiting the amount of longitudinal excavation space required for the box.

It may be a practical option for contractors and municipalities performing localized utility work where deeper vertical coverage is needed but the excavation is restricted by pavement, structures, existing utilities, traffic-control limits, or other jobsite obstacles.

Compared with the 9′ x 6′ and 9′ x 7′ configurations, this box requires less excavation length but provides less longitudinal working room. The dimensions of the utility components, tools, rigging, and equipment used inside the system should be verified before selecting the 5-foot length.

The modular construction also allows contractors to expand their ShoreLite Lite inventory with compatible panels, connectors, legs, spreaders, and accessories for other excavation configurations.

Final selection must be based on the actual excavation, intended application, utility-component dimensions, complete stacked-panel configuration, manufacturer’s tabulated data, and the requirements established by the project’s Competent Person.
